Lemonade Stand

Jace came up with this idea on the way to drop off daddy to the airport.  Once it was in his head and his mind was made up - there was no stopping him. He talked so much about it on the way home that I became distracted coming up with ideas and missed the turnoff to the 101.  I didn't realize it until I was in Goodyear.  lol.  We stopped at the dollar store on the way home and picked up poster paper.  Then we got some lemonade mix and lemons at the grocery store.  I quickly whipped up some lemonade and a batch a cookies for Jace and Brooke to sell at The Brammer Kids Lemonade Stand.  Jace was so impatient that he set up shop before I could even finish the sign for it.  25 cents for a cookie and 25 cents for lemonade.  I thought that he should wait until it cooled off a bit (it was probably 100+ degrees outside) but he insisted that the hotter it was the more people would come.  Brooke sat outside with him for about 10min. and then came inside to cool off.  I tried to convince him to come inside and take a break but he was a hardcore business man and said he needed to man the post.  He ended up making $2.50 in about 1 1/2 hours of sitting outside in the mid-day sun.  He and Brooke were thrilled.   I was thinking ... hmmm... not even enough to cover expenses but I was happy they had fun.  We decided to then take a break and set the lemonade stand back up from 6-7:30pm when it was significantly cooler outside.  This is the perfect time of day to set up a lemonade stand.  People just kept stopping.  One women bought 4 cookies & 4 lemonades and gave Jace a  whole $5 dollar bill to keep. He couldn't have been more excited.  She asked if they were saving money for something special.  Brooke shook her head and gave her a huge smile and said "Nope, we just wanna get rich." She laughed and laughed.  After a long break of no customers I tried to convince Jace to pack it up.  After we sold all the cookies and there was just a little lemonade left I tried to get him to come inside again but he refused.  He was bound and determined and he didn't want to come in until all of the lemonade was sold ... and he didn't. He stayed out there until every last drop was sold.  He ended up making $11 more dollars and boy did they both feel rich.  The divided up the money and couldn't stop talking about their fun lemonade stand adventure.  I was very proud of my mini entrepreneurs.

Jace was the most excited about having a whole $5 dollar bill to himself.  He carried it around the house talking about it and constantly examining it.  The next day he lost it.  We spent the whole day looking for it and couldn't find it anywhere.  I few mornings later it was still missing and Jace was devastated.  It was a perfect teaching moment .  Before school I took him aside and talked to him about prayer and about faith and how Heavenly Father had helped me many times before when I had misplaced things of importance to me.  He humbly knelt down and said a heart felt prayer to help him find his $5 dollar bill.  5minutes later he found it outside in one of the drink holder's of a lawn chair.  We knelt down and said a prayer of thanks.  I was filled with the spirit and so thankful that his prayer was answered and that I had recently had a lesson at church on the topic so it was fresh in my mind.  I'm glad I had the opportunity to teach Jace about prayer.

Love this! I am definitely using the story of teaching your kids to pray for the little things in one of my lessons this week!!
