Brooke's Messes

No pictures ... just me venting.  Brooke is all about having fun, but sometimes 90% of the time, that fun ends up in a mess.  Yesterday I was at my wits end with her.  She had to sit in timeout during most of dinner because she was making faces and saying naughty words to get a rise out of everyone.  She ended up eating most of her dinner alone.  When I went to clean up the dinner dishes I kept feeling something grainy on my feet but I  couldn't see anything.  Hmmm. .. weird.  Then as I got closer to her chair I saw the salt shaker was completely empty when I had just refilled it earlier in the day.  She had emptied an entire thing of salt all over her food, the floor, and there was also a little pile on everyone's chairs.  When I asked her why she did that she said "I thought it would be a funny trick when everyone sat down and got salt on their bums."  She was laughing hysterically like it was the funniest thing in the world.  She was a mess so I sent her into the bathroom to take a bath.  When the tub was half full I went in and turned the water off for her.  When I returned about 8 min. later to make sure she had washed her hair I stepped into an inch of water all over the bathroom floor.  The rug was soaked and she was just gliding from one end of the tub to the other with closed eyes and a huge smile on her face. Each time she did it a big wave of water splashed on the floor.  I asked her what happened.  She looked around just then realizing that she had made a mess at all.  "Oops... I was just being a baby whale."  Apparently having the bath half full wasn't enough for a baby whale to swim in.  I helped her get the snarles out of her hair and comb it nice and find some pajamas.  Craig did some stories with the kids while I tackled the salt mess in the kitchen, then we did family prayer.  Brooke got out of bed to use the bathroom.  She got distracted with how fun the hand soap was and somehow managed to get it all over her freshly shampooed and nicely combed hair.  That did it.  I talked to her sternly about how disappointed I was with her behavior.  She sulked away and told daddy that mommy was super angry at her and how she felt sad and that she was just trying to have fun.  That made me feel bad.  She has such a yellow personality.  Always seeing the fun in everything.  She reminds me very much of my sister Becky.  Always quick witted, funny, and fun to be around.  We love her to bits even though she's a mess maker.

By the way, Becky, I'm not trying to imply that you are messy - just a fun lover with a yellow personality!

Okay I decided to add a picture.

Yellow personality or not, that would be hard to deal with because you don't want to "break her spirits," but you also need her to know there are boundaries and consequences to certain things.

Ugh...we are going through that but in a much less grandiose way. Good luck, I will be praying for you. :)

lol, I am sorry Heather. It is hard to be cleaning up messes all the time! She will grow out of that messy stage right around 25. ;) Love you and miss you guys! Give those cute kids a squeeze from us.
