A GREEN Midget Thumb?

Those who know me well know that I have totally weird thumbs. Whatever you want to call them: midget thumbs, toe thumbs, clubbed thumbs - the scientific name is brachydactyly type D (BDD) and it is found in approximately 1 million Americans. So no, I'm not alone in my weirdo deformity. Actually, it is a genetic trait usually passed on from parent to child. I got mine from my mom. (Thanks for that mom.) Anyway, mostly this has been an embarrassment to me . .especially throughout the adolescent yrs and dating. Oh yes, I really did consciously keep my thumbs out of site of people and constantly wished for normal elegant long thumbs that most girls had instead of short stubby fat ones. In fact, I can now laugh when I remember back to my first semester of college, boating with a large group of people and totally being outed by my older brother. That's right he says "Hey has everyone seen Heather's weird thumbs?" in front of everyone. Of course, everyone gathered around to see exactly what I had been trying to hide and I was utterly and completely embarrassed and ashamed of my ugly little thumbs. He he he - it's so funny now that I cared so much. But I am telling you now that I am absolutely embracing my weird stubby little thumbs from now on. I mean yeah they don't do well in thumb wars . .Craig beats me every time BUT I recently found out that one of them is green. That's right I planted my very first garden this year and it actually grew. I'm so excited! There is something very satisfying about planting a seed and watching it grow. I love it. Here are some of my accomplishments:

Nothing tastes better than sweet home grown cherry tomatoes - right?

I guess Craig would beg to differ - he hates them but the kids and I have just been gobbling them up for the last couple weeks. I love that the kids have something healthy to snack on while they're playing outside too.

Yellow squash, cherry tomatoes, lemon cucumber, and zucchini squash.

Jace loves to help in the garden.

He LOVES cherry tomatoes and helps pick them all the time.

Wild Flowers

More wild flowers and a big barrel of Mint.

My sweet little Jace helper showing off our Bloomin' little front yard too.

Geraniums

Petunias

This is Brooke's goof face. She learned it from Craig.

Lavender bushes.

The bumble bees love the lavender and the kids love watching the bees hard at work.

Why wouldn't I love my stubby little thumbs? After all they helped me create all of this!

He he he . . . I still can't believe I'm blogging about my weirdo thumbs. Peace out everyone.

Yeah for little thumbs!!! Good job on the gardening! I used to love gardening too--until I moved to Southern Utah where the sun eats up anything I plant.

Heather, your thumbs rock :) I could never grow anything (in fact, I usually kill them off before they even have a chance).

I am literally rolling on the ground with laughter right now. I remember laughing and teasing you over those ugly little thumbs growing up. I also remember teasing you about that hair... years later I permed mine to look just like it! ;) Have you ever thought that we tease you only because we are jealous and secretly want your ugly little thumbs? lol. ok, no, but we do love you sweet girl. I'm glad you're garden grew!

Oh and I think it's HILARIOUS that you dedicated a post to your thumbs. Maybe I'll do one for my boobs and how they have declined in these past fews years! Then I'll post an after picture! lol.
