It's a Girl! : Baby Jenni's Birth Story

After having an EVC turning our little breech baby and then having a little scare going a night without much movement we followed my Doctor's urges to induce and get this baby out.  We packed our hospital bags and went in at 5:30 am on March 14, 2014.  I changed into my hospital gown and the nurses hooked me up to an IV and started the pitocin.  They had med students there observing and asked if they could be in for my babies birth.  Since it was 3 girls I said yes.  They were so excited.  None of the other women there that day would let them in.  They helped check my vitals and brought me ice chips.  We hoped to see this baby by noon. ... but noon came and went.  I was starving.   I tried to keep busy by reading a book, watching HGTV, and napping.  The hours passed.  They upped the pitocin and Dr. Hannah came in to break my water.  I had an unusually large amount of amniotic fluid.  That baby was swimming.  No wonder the baby turned so easily with the EVC.  After they emptied my womb of fluid the babies heart rate dropped.  They had to attach a monitor on babies head.  They upped the pitocin again and we hoped to be ready to have baby by 2pm.  Finally around 5pm I started getting really nauseous and started vomiting.  That was a good sign though because that meant I was at transistion.  They checked me and I was finally at an 8.  Dr. Hannah had to go do a C - section in the other room and thought I would be ready by the time he was done. The students celebrated.  They were losing hope that they would get to see this birth since they were suppose to leave at 5pm, but since I was so close they decided to stick around.  I continued to throw up and started to get the shakes.  All normal for me.  Craig left to use the bathroom and right at that moment I felt that pressure and yelled at him because this baby was coming NOW.  He rushed in, the nurses rushed in, the students rushed in, and Dr. Hannah had just finished with the C-section and rushed right in as well.  After about 5 minutes of pushing our darling little baby girl was born at 5:31pm.  She was absolutely beautiful.  She weighed 7lb 3oz and was 18 1/2 inches long.  She even had a little bit of dark hair.  It was a beautiful moment finally knowing that we had a girl.  Our little Jenni Marie.  Jenni was the name that Craig wanted.  All the girls he knew named Jenny / Jenni were good girls.  I had wanted to name her either Lyla or Evelyn but couldn't convince Craig.  Finally one day, I got really emotional and was crying and Craig felt bad and agreed that we could name the baby Lyla if it was a girl.  The second that he agreed I had this distinct thought come into my head that "no, this babies name is supposed to be Jenni".  I had thought all along that I was having a girl but that really confirmed it for me and I knew from then on that we were having a little Jenni baby and that name fits her perfectly.  She is perfect.  Having a baby is such a miracle.  I was so thankful that everything went well.  12 hours of labor was longer than I was hoping for but we came out with a beautiful, healthy little girl.

Grandma and Grandpa spent the day with our other kids and had just finished spending the afternoon at Chucky Cheese when we let them know about sweet little Jenni baby.  They came over and each had a turn holding her.  I'm glad my parents got to see her before having to head back to Utah the next day.  Grandpa Robert also came in from Oklahoma City to see sweet Jenni.  I stayed that night at the hospital and was home the next day.  The Christensen family came to see us at the hospital before we came home.

Getting ready ...
