I went and saw Twilight the first weekend it was released. I have been very into all the Twilight HYPE. Probably because I just finished reading all the books so everything is fresh in my mind and the fact that it was all filmed here. I loved the books . .the way Stephenie Meyer writes is addicting .. you just want to keep reading and reading and reading! The last 2 books I read in 3 days and no my kids didn't starve. Luckily it was over a weekend and I was sick so Craig took care of the kids and I just got to read. Anyways, girls night out . . . or for the young mothers category . . which my friend & I fit into it was more like a 2 hour break away from the kids in the middle of the day. I went with low expectations because how could anyone put onto film what I had imagined in my head and how can they possibly take "human" actors and turn them into the unimaginably beautiful vampires described in the book. I had mixed feelings about the movie. Overall I thought that they did a good job sticking to the book but that it was rushed too much. I felt like they didn't protrey the connection between Bella & Edward as much as they should have. The special effects were horrible . .I was almost laughing in parts that wern't suppose to be funny. They should have figured out a better way to distinguish the vampires from the other people then by just using white powder, eyeliner, and lipsitck. The cast was okay. Alice and Jessica were exactly what I had imagined in my head. Emmett, Esme, Jacob, Mike and Charlie were great but what were they thinking for Jasper and Rosalie . . .aren't the vampires suppose to be good looking? Not that the girl that played Rosalie was ugly or anything but she is suppose to be the most beautiful figure to grace the earth and she didn't meet my expectations . .I've seen prettier, perfect looking girls in other movies too so it's not like it was out of their reach. Bella looked the part but she wasn't the best actress and Edward & Carlisle wern't what I imagined but they did okay.
At first, what worried me most was that people who had not read the book and saw the movie would probably question . .what all the fuss was about and not get it or not want to read the book because the movie wasn't great. I did love the baseball scene and mostly I loved the fact that I recognized so many of the places that they filmed.
Recently I saw the movie for a second time with my husband ( I felt bad dragging him to it because he detested the thought of it, but he told me that he could sit through 2 hours of torture since I had to endure a BYU football game every Sat. for the last couple months). .his thoughts were "going into it thinking it was a movie about vegetarian vampires" (and I'll give it to him that does sound weird)"on a scale of 1-10 I thought it would be a -3 and it ended up being a 1".
I actually enjoyed the movie much more the second time around. I think because I already knew what to expect so I wasn't examining everything negativly the whole time. I was able to just appreciate it for the beatiful love story that it is. I'm excited that they are doing the second movie "New Moon" and I will still definetly buy the movie "Twilight" when it comes out. I would love to see the commentary and special features on it since it was filmed here. I realize that there is just no way they can possibly fit a 500 pg. book into a 2 hr. movie. It's still a fun movie to see . .so GO see it! That is MY take on Twilight.
Here are some pictures of different locations we have been where Twilight was filmed:
These are from the Colombia River Gorge just minutes from our home. I was sick and needed to get out the house so we found this park to throw the football around in. A park in the Gorge similiar to this one is where the baseball scene was filmed . .and where the "bad" vampires show up.
Overlooking the Colombia River
This is Cape Horn. A lot of the panoramic views used in the movie were from here . .it's actually still considered to be part of Washougal . . where we live. Washougal is the Gateway to the Gorge. Craig actually recognized some of the roads they were driving on in the movie after they leave the baseball game and start the chase. We definitly live in a beautiful place!

This is actually a creek just a short walk away from our house . .nothing was filmed here but it just shows how green and beautiful it is here!

This is Ecola State Park . .the same place that the La Push Beach scene with Jacob and Bella was filmed. Of course, we went in the summer NOT during the rainy season.

beautiful pictures! I can totally see why they filmed some of Twilight there; it is almost exactly what I was picturing when reading the books!
Gorgeous pictures. Dan and I are going on a date night to see Twilight Saturday night. I'm in the middle of Breaking Dawn. Dan has read the first three books. He doesn't really care about the movie. I'm kind of dragging him to that one.
What did you think of the movie?
We are going to have to come visit you!! It is sooooo beautiful there. I'm glad you guys are liking it. I just saw the movie but I haven't read the books. Lame I know. I'm reading them now though! Give me a call sometime!
It's fun to see where it was filmed. That totally gives you bragging rights...if only it was a better movie. J/K. Awesome pic.s.
