REALLY!?!

Here is my idiotic moment of the week.  It's a pretty bad one ... It involves the car door being driven into the side of the garage ... causing the window to be shattered and the door to be bent.  Okay, before you peg me as a completely unintelligent individual or a horrible driver, hear me out.  This is what happened ...

It was after 6pm. Ty usually goes to bed at 6:30pm and he was already starting to get fussy.  Jace had begged me all day to go to the store to get him a new wallet.  I promised all day and no time turned out to be a good time so here we were nearly to Ty's bedtime.  It was now or never.  Ty was crying and I was flustered.  I buckled him into his seat as the kids ran around the side of the house to hide.  REALLY!?!  Didn't they realize that I was in a hurry to get this over with!?!  I started the car so they would realize that I meant business and that if they didn't get in the car NOW they were going to get left or we wouldn't be going at all.  Of course they hurried over and got in their seats and quickly got buckled.  Ïs everybody buckled and ready to go?" I asked, "Yep, we're ready to go." I glanced over my right shoulder to see my kids smiling faces as I backed up slowly . .. CRASH!!  What in the world!?!  I was completely taken off guard.  What happened!?!  I turned around the other way seeing the bent door and shattered glass of the left rear door behind me which had hit the side of the garage on our way out. "Oops ... I forgot to shut my door." Brooke shakily shrieked with a panicked look on her face.  I put my hands on my face and wanted to cry.  This happened to be our good car.  Sad huh. (We desperately need a family vehicle)  We happened to have just got the Honda fixed and put it up on Craig's list a few mornings earlier in hopes of selling it and trying to get a Honda Odyssey instead.  What now?  I called Craig and gave him the bad news.  He happened to be on his way to a dinner at the President of Thunderbird's home so he couldn't just come home.  He was super understanding though.  Accidents happen.  I couldn't believe that I hadn't checked Brooke's door.  Why would she have said Yep - ready to go - if her door was wide open?  In the end, she's 4, and it was my fault and it makes it that much worse.  Boo hoo sometimes I just want to cry.  I called a few body shop places and got some estimates that ranged from $150.00 to a couple thousand dollars.   I'm crossing my fingers that it's $150.00.

Poor Brooke... even though I explained to her that it was mommies fault for not checking her door she was extremely upset and thought that daddy would be SO mad at her and not think she was a princess anymore. It didn't help that Jace kept bringing up how she broke the car so he couldn't get his wallet.  Of course daddy gave her a giant hug when he got home and assured her that she is still his princess and will always be. :)

I'm sure sorry about your car. Hope it is an inexpensive fix!
