"Scooter Money"

Brooke and Jace both got scooters for Christmas from mom and dad this year.  They use them ALL the time.  We walk to the school and the park regularly and they always ride their scooters.  Plus they ride them around the neighborhood with friends as well.

Peoria was having their large debris pickup week for our neighborhood.  It's great.  Everyone prunes their bushes and trees and gets rid of clutter and large junk.  You know the saying, one mans junk is another man's treasure.  I don't mind someone taking something that I'm trashing if they can use it.  Recycling is great.  However some have made a side job of roaming the streets and sifting through everyone's trash collecting things they can sell and there has been some theft of things that were not actually in junk piles.  Poor Brooke was victim of such a crime.  She went out scooter riding with her friend and left her scooter in the front yard and one of the trash diggers took it.  :(  So sad was she.

The kids have been earning money from their responsibility charts.  I made a deal with Brooke that if she saved all her money and worked really hard for a whole entire month that we could go to the store and if she put all the money she earned toward a new scooter I would cover the rest.

I was SO proud of how hard she worked.  Each week on pay day we put her money in an envelope marked "Scooter Money".  She did extra chores to earn extra money and smiled wide eyed as we counted her money each week.  Finally after a whole month she had saved almost $18.00.  I couldn't believe it.  She worked so hard.  I was so proud of her.  I was proud of her for saving her money and not spending it weekly at the dollar store because that was very tempting for her.  We went to the store and she picked out a beautiful pink Razor Scooter with pink and purple tassels and a bell.  It was beautiful.  She loved it.  It was that much more special because she worked so hard for it.  She earned it.  Pictures of the scooter to come...
