OMSI

This is the perfect place to take the kids during these long, rainy, northwest winters. Our favorite spot is the Science Playground. It's this giant room filled with fun activities for the little kiddos to do. At Sand Land they can play with buckets, shovels, sifters, and special activity panels to explore the physics of sand. At Waterworks they get to put on special waterproof aprons and boots before playing in giant tubs of water filled with toys and waterfalls. Another favorite area is Nature Play where they get to discover nature from an animals point of view. They can crawl through the roots of a giant tree, venture into a cave, play in a woodland stream, or perch themselves in the eagles nest. They have a place for building blocks, reading stories, doing puppet shows, a play area with buckets & pulleys, an area where they can put little plastic balls into clear suction tubes and watch as they twist and turn and make their way back. The kids really love putting them over the spot where the air is shooting straight up because it makes the balls look like they are magically flying. Last time we went they had flubber in the Discover Lab that the kids enjoyed playing with. It's just such a blast and it's always great to get out of the house. It's even more fun when we can talk our friends into joining us there. Thanks Genevieve! Jace thinks Nolan is super cool. He followed him around the entire time when we went last. Well, if I tried to explain everything about OMSI I'd be here all night so if you haven't gone - GO! I described one room but there is SO much more. It's in the most beautiful location too . . . right along the waterfront on the Willamette in downtown Portland, OR. We haven't even had time to check out the Submarine they have in the river out back. Good thing we have a season pass. It may take us all year to see everything we want to see. Here are some pictures of some of our trips there . .from 4 different occasions. Enjoy. . .

Me and the kids after 3 hours of playing at OMSI. Jace was mad he had to stand still to take a picture. Pretty view . .huh!

I'm so glad you have found such fun activities that actually teach your kids to love science as well as just having fun! Good Job Mom--give them hugs from me!

Yes, we love OMSI! And we had so much fun with you, too! I LOVE Brooke's face as she's watching the "flying" ball. So perfect! PS - It's on the Willamette, not Comlubia River :)

Heather, I didn't know whether to laugh or cry at your Walmart story! I wanted to laugh because honestly, it's a funny story, but I wanted to cry because it's a story all too familiar to me!!! Just wait until there's 3 of them! Hang in there girl, you can do it!

Love,

Shelly
